I, like many of you, am very concerned about the current state of the environment. Since the beginning of the year, more and more news has been coming out about our poor, blue dot that leaves me feeling panicked. Bees are disappearing, the oceans are acidifying, and of course, the ice shelves are melting. As the truth becomes impossible to hide, my fear has only intensified. I don’t want to contribute to this mess anymore. I started The Greenest CPA as a way for me to feel like I am part of the solution rather than the problem. I hope that it helps me mitigate some of that panicked feeling, and turn it into something useful. I know that it’s helping me gain a better understanding of our environmental crisis, and forcing me to look at my life and make some real changes in how I do things.
I have been working in finance and accounting for over six years. I spent five of those years working in television, and made the decision to get my CPA license during that time. In the beginning of last year, I joined a CPA firm, and have been working in tax and audit (with the occasional consulting project) ever since. I am currently sitting for the CPA exam – I have passed the first three parts and have one left to take.
I have always believed that business is what really runs this country (sorry government), and that the almighty dollar can either be our salvation or our demise. I want to make it our salvation. It’s time to change the way we think about true wealth. We need to stop using our dollars to acquire ever-expanding mounds of useless plastic crap, and start using our dollars to make a real change and investment in our futures.
As I embark on my journey towards becoming a CPA, I plan to use this blog to highlight ways that both business and accountants can be a part of the solution. I haven’t figured it all out yet, and this blog with help me along the way. It will also help me continue to make changes in my own life to decrease my carbon footprint.
